The film is based on the book by John Leake, and reveals the life and crimes of Austrian serial killer and celebrity journalist Jack Unterweger and exposes the twists in the case in both the United States and Austria that led to his capture and Austria’s trial of the century.

Bill Wheeler wrote the original script, which is getting a rewrite from Birdman screenwriter Alexander Dinelaris.

Broad Green Pictures, who are behind Gerard Barrett’s next film Brain on Fire and the Bryan Cranston and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor starring The Infiltrator, produce, with Storyscape Entertainment and DMC Film.

DMC, which was founded by Fassbender, Conor McCaughan, and Daniel Emmerson in 2011, previously gave us the Sundance World Jury Prize winning Slow West, and will next bring us video-game adaptation Assassin’s Creed, which stars Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Brendan Gleeson, Brian Gleeson, and Jeremy Irons.

Fassbender will next be seen reprising his role as Erik Lehnsherr a.k.a. Magneto in X-Men: Apocalypse, which is out in Irish cinemas on May 18th.
