Fright Night scares up Mintz-Plasse and Tennant

As I’ve said before Fright Night is not a movie I want to see remade. Not that I have any choice mind, but that’s how I feel. Ignoring my wishes is Dreamworks, who is actually assembling a decent cast, with Christopher Mintz-Plasse and David Tenant today joining Anton Yelchin and Colin Farrell on the project.

Mintz-Plasse will star as “Evil” Ed Thompson, the best friend of Anton Yelchin’s Charlie, while Doctor Who star Tennant will play Peter Vincent, a stage magician who uses horror imagery in his act and claims to be a vampire expert. That part was previously occupied by Roddy McDowell who played it as a late-night-TV horror movie host. Bit of a change there.

Toni Collette will play Charlie’s mom in Craig Gillespie’s adaptation, with Farrell playing the creepy neighbour next door that Charlie suspects is a vampire. Someone who is familiar with vampires is Buffy scribe Marti Noxon who has penned the script, and relocated the action to Las Vegas.

Shooting starts next month for an expected early 2011 release.
