Priest – New trailer

Oh my this looks appalling. Screen Gems has released a new trailer for Priest, Paul Bettany’s second collaboration with his Legion director Scott Charles Stewart, and as you ca tell by my initial sentence I don’t rate it much.

Don’t get me wrong Bettany is a talented actor, and the movie even has Karl Urban for extra heft, but this mess of bad CGI, hammy dialogue and just plain badness does not set a good tone.

The movie sees a warrior priest disobeying Church law and teaming with a young sheriff and a beautiful priestess to track down a band of renegade vampires who have kidnapped the priest’s niece before they turn her into one of them.

Priest is out May 13th, hopefully it looks better by then.

Synopsis:

Set for release in spring 2011, this Screen Gems thriller is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi ride, set in an alternate world – one ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires. The story revolves around a legendary Warrior Priest from the last Vampire War who now lives in obscurity among the other downtrodden human inhabitants in walled-in dystopian cities ruled by the Church. When his niece is abducted by a murderous pack of vampires, Priest breaks his sacred vows to venture out on a quest to find her before they turn her into one of them. He is joined on his crusade by his niece’s boyfriend, a trigger-fingered young wasteland sheriff, and a former Warrior Priestess who possesses otherworldly fighting skills.  Directed by Scott Charles Stewart and written by Cory Goodman along with Min-Woo Hyung from the graphic novel series “Priest”, PRIEST stars Paul Bettany, Karl Urban, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q, Lily Collins, Brad Dourif, Stephen Moyer, and Christopher Plummer.
