#IrishFilm: Viko Nikci’s feature debut Cellar Door to hit Irish cinemas on January 25th

Viko Nikci’s Magdalene laundry inspired mystery-drama, Cellar Door, will be released in Irish cinemas on January 25th (Cert 15A). The film won won Best First Irish Feature at the Galway Film Fleadh earlier this year.

Cellar Door tells the story of young love to tortured loss and back again, the story follows Aidie, a fighter inside and out – as she searches for her son while in the grip of the Church. With a unique point of view on a familiar trauma, Cellar Door cuts deep into the character’s subjective experience – an exploration of love regained and loss relived with the burning question throughout “What’s The Last Thing You Remember?”

The film stars a strong ensemble Irish cast led by Karen Hassan (Finding Joy, Suspects, The Fall ,Hollyoaks), with Mark O’ Halloran (Adam and Paul), Catherine Walker (A Dark Song, Patrick’s Day),  Ian McElhinney (Rogue One, Hamlet, Game Of Thrones), Una Carroll (Calvary), Stella McCusker (Five Minutes of Heaven), Leah McNamara (Metal Heart), Amber Jean Rowan (Guilt), Ruairi O’Connor (Handsome Devil ), Ali White (The Fall), and Conor Ó Hanlon (Vikings).

The film is Viko Nikci’s debut feature drama and sees Nikci take multiple roles as director, writer and editor. DoP is Robert Flood, with production design by Mark Kelly, original music from Ray Harman, and casting by Thyrza Ging and Louise Kiely. Cellar Door is produced by David Collins (Once) for Samson Films with support from Fís Éireann / Screen Ireland.
