The 83rd Academy Awards were celebrated last night in Hollywood and few if any surprises were amongst the winners of cinema’s most coveted prize. Awards frontrunner The Kings Speech picked up four awards including Best Picture and Best Director. The Social Network won three, including Best Editing and Best Adapted Screenplay, but missed on on the bigger prizes that it was favourite for before The King’s Speech awards train came to town.
Elsewhere Christopher Nolan’s brilliant Inception picked up four technical awards, showing that the Academy too recognised it was something special, whilst Natalie Portman won Best Actress for her amazing performance in Black Swan, and The Fighter was doubly rewarded with both Best Supporting for Christian Bale and Melissa Leo.
Toy Story 3 shocked no-one by winning Best Animated Feature, but what is shocking is the fact that Alice in Wonderland is a two-time Oscar winner, for Best Costume and Best Art Direction.
