Director Jonathan Hughes is currently casting for a potential new RTÉ/Filmbase funded short film project entitled The Wake. The short is currently shortlisted as one of the final 8 projects, with two of the films ultimately being selected for funding.
The film will be shot on location in Co. Monaghan and will shoot in early summer 2015. The film is written and directed by award winning filmmaker Jonathan Hughes (One Thousand Yards – Best Student Film @ National Student Media Awards 2014 and Best Student Short @ Underground Cinema Film Festival 2014). The Wake recently won Best Short Screenplay at the Waterford Film Festival.
The Wake is a 12 minute comedy, and follows the story of three young brothers at their grandmother’s wake and the bitter rivalry over who is worthy of saying the Prayers of the Faithful.
They are currently searching for three male lead actors for the film. Actors should be within the playing-age range of 7-16 years, with the parts as follows:
Greg (9) – LEAD ROLE – Always the centre of attention; will do anything to get in the spotlight, no matter who tries to get in his way
Eric (7) – The youngest brother, innocent, easily upset; the pet of the family
Sean (15) – The sensible one, stays out of the spotlight, keeps himself busy elsewhere (like the kitchen)
Interested applicants should create a short piece to camera video where they tell us a little about themselves. This video should be uploaded privately (with a password) to Vimeo, or Unlisted on Youtube. A link to this video must then be sent, along with the necessary password and contact details to TheWakeShort@gmail.com
As this will be a funded short film project the selected applicants will be paid a small amount and all their expenses covered.
Deadline for applications is Saturday February 7th 2015, at 5pm.
