We continue our series of posts on the films at 2015 Galway Film Fleadh, taking a look at Tomm Moore and Cartoon Saloon’s multi-award-winning animated folktale Song of the Sea. The film screens Thursday July 9th, at 6pm in the Town Hall Theatre.
The IFTAThe Irish Film and Television Academy (IFTA) is an all-Ireland organisation with a Membership of 1,240 individuals across 14 Chapters of Discipline. More award-winning, and Oscar nominated film follows Ben and his little sister Saoirse, the last selkie, who can transform from seals to people, and her journey to the sea, to find her voice and sing the “Song of the Sea” to save all of fairy kind from being lost forever.
An all-star voice cast features in the film, including Brendan Gleeson, Fionnula Flanagan, David Rawle, Lisa Hannigan, Pat Shortt, and Jon Kenny. The score comes from The Secret of Kells collaborators Bruno Coulais and the Irish band Kila.
Song of the Sea has its Irish premiere on Thursday July 9th, at 6pm in the Town Hall Theatre. Director Tomm Moore and cast will attend. Ticket includes entry to post-screening Kíla concert at the Rowing Club.
