New course on Writing for Animated Television Series from Screen Training Ireland. To be held in Dublin over 8 days from October 22nd. The course will consist of eight days of intensive animation writing training which will mimic a “real world” animation writers room process, where writers will develop an animation series.
The series will be based on classic material in the public domain.
Module 1: 22nd to 27th of October 2017
Days 1-3
- Concept development.
- Hooks.
- Characters.
- World.
- Conflict.
- Emotional heart of the series.
- How to come up with great stories.
- How to write a springboard.
Day 4
- Writers will each write four spring boards and the tutor will pick one for each writer to develop.
Day 5: Scriptwriting Class
- Story structure
- Plot points.
Day 6
- Breaking the story. Participants will break two episodes.
At the end of module 1 participants will be assigned a partner to break their episode of the series with.
Participants will be given 10 days to write up a scene by scene outline which will be submitted to the tutor who will development notes.
Participants will rewrite their step outline and resubmit it.
Outlines will be circulated to all participants.
Module 2: 16th to 17th of January 2018
Scriptwriting skills.

- How to bring animated characters to life

- Scene length
- How to writer for different genres
- Career paths for animation writers
At the end of Module 2 participants will be given four weeks to write a first draft.
The tutor will give them feedback.
They will have two weeks to do a second draft.
In order for participants to develop their editing skills second drafts will be circulated to all participants who will provide each other with notes. Based on these notes participants will do a final draft.
Participant Profile:
Emerging animation writers / writing teams and live action writers / writing teams with a keen interest in animation writing. Writers will submit a sample of their screenwriting or a sample of writing which encapsulates their voice.
