Film Event: Dublin Dance Festival to screen ballet documentary Rain at IFI

On 25th May 2011 the world-renowned Ballet de l’Opéra de Paris presented Rain, its first ever performance of a choreography by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, one of the most prominent choreographers in contemporary dance and founder of acclaimed dance company Rosas. The documentary Rain that captured this process will be presented by the IFI and the 10th Dublin Dance Festival on 25th May at 4pm.

The filmmakers Olivia Rochette and Gerard-Jan Claes follow the rehearsal process from the auditions to the opening performance. The documentary focuses on how De Keersmaeker and the Rosas dancers convey the dance idiom of the choreographer to the classically trained ballet dancers. The rigidity of ballet gives way to another kind of severity, namely the mathematical pattern of Rain, which conceals a powerful emotional layering.

A poetic documentary about searching, looking and hesitating within the sometimes claustrophobic confines of an opera house.

The Dublin Dance Festival runs until 31st May 2014. Tickets are available from the IFI Box Office on 01 679 3477/online at (Free List Suspended) or from Dublin Dance Festival Box Office on 01 679 0524 /
